Matters of Grievance

All organisations are required to have procedures that allow their employees to raise a grievance.

All employees must be made aware of how their grievance will be processed.

Grievance procedures should make it easy for people to raise issues with senior managers. Complaints about discrimination, bullying, and harassment are sensitive issues and as such it may be appropriate to have separate procedures for dealing with these issues.

An important aspect of the grievance procedure is the right of the employee to appeal. A further concern for the employer is being aware of the protection for employees under the 'whistle-blowing' legislation.

If you haven't got grievance procedures in place you could very well have problems with constructive dismissal claims.
