Managing People at Work

You pay people who you employ to come to work – not to be off sick!

Whilst we know there are times when people are genuinely ill or unable to come to work – there are a few who will try it on – call it ‘dial a day’ or whatever – your business needs help to reduce unauthorised absence. It is costing you time and money so put a halt to it now.

An employee off work sick for more than 14 days is likely to be rare, but when it does happen, there are benefits from working in partnership with your employee.

Companies – no matter what their size or structure - need to ensure that they have a realistic and workable Policy and Procedure for Managing People at Work.

Absence falls into one of two categories -

'frequent and persistent’ or
‘long term’.

Both need to be monitored in order to effectively manage people’s attendance at work.

In either situation you need to generate sufficient and accurate information on which you can act constructively. However, firstly you need to design policies and procedures which can be communicated and are understood, agreed and supported at all levels of your organisation.

Individuals genuinely fall ill. But equally people may try to ‘play the system’ and have more than their fair share of time away from work.
