Return to Work Interviews

Well conducted, a return-to-work interview demonstrates concern for the well-being of your employee. It equally shows that the absence has been noticed, and the individual missed.

The return to work interview provides an opportunity for staff to discuss health concerns in private, and to check that there is no underlying health or work issue which may have caused the absence.

Finally it enables the individual to be brought up to date with any changes or current work issues.

The whole process should be a constructive routine which both parties find useful. Very often this is not the case.

The training implications are two-fold. People managers need to understand the potential costs and problems with unmanaged absence; yet need equipping with policy, protocols and consistent enforcement. Additional training can be arranged to support managers with effective Attendance Management
